Liverpool eyeing Malick Fofana as Mohamed Salah replacement

Liverpool are keen to explore a move for Malick Fofana as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, with a future approach likely.

According to Fichajes, Malick Fofana could be a big target for Liverpool in the near future, as the Premier League giants view him as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Lyon winger was expected to move last summer, but he stayed put for a better future opportunity, and the Merseysiders could now consider him in the next window or in the summer.

Malick Fofana was widely expected to leave a troubled Lyon side in the summer owing to their financial issues. The Ligue 1 side looked primed to sell their prized asset, with Everton coming extremely close to signing the 20-year-old whizkid, but he rejected the idea as the Belgian sought to play for a Champions League side.

He also stated that he rejected two offers from top clubs in the summer, as there was widespread interest from Premier League sides. Despite Malick Fofana staying at Lyon, there is still a distinct possibility of a January departure with teams like Tottenham ready to make their move.

However, Liverpool are once again emerging as a big contender for the Belgian winger, as they view him as a long-term replacement for star man Mohamed Salah. There are suggestions that the Egyptian could leave next summer, with the Reds already keeping tabs on a few replacement options, including the 20-year-old whizkid.

Liverpool are keen on Malick Fofana

The idea around exploring a move for Fofana might be linked with improving their attack long-term rather than replacing Salah. Both players play on opposite wings, hence Liverpool’s links with Michael Olise make more sense to replace the Egyptian.

As for Malick Fofana, he has already shown his levels after one year with Lyon following his move from KAA Gent in the summer of 2024. However, Liverpool may not be the only team in the mix for the Belgian winger either in January or next summer, with plenty of others expected to chase him. However, should Lyon be forced to sell the 20-year-old whizkid in January, then teams like Liverpool must make a swift decision on the winger.
