Arsenal rival Real Madrid in Angelo Stiller chase

Arsenal are ready to challenge Real Madrid in the pursuit of in-demand Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller ahead of future windows.

According to Fichajes, Angelo Stiller continued to attract some of the biggest clubs following his displays with Stuttgart. Arsenal are the latest to enter the chase and could ponder an approach in future windows, as the north Londoners are ready to challenge Real Madrid for the German midfielder.

Angelo Stiller was in the news during the latter stages of the window as there seemed like a chance that he would leave Stuttgart. The midfielder had a tremendous season with the German side, helping them win the DFB Pokal and subsequently ensuring Europa League qualification via the cup win.

However, when the previous campaign ended, he was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, with Stuttgart reportedly holding talks with the Spanish giants. He does have a release clause in the region of €32 million as per Caught Offside, with the report also stating that Stuttgart can effectively cancel the said clause by paying a meagre sum.

Real Madrid were keen to bolster their midfield with Stiller, as he was a profile that the new boss Xabi Alonso, sought. However, the Spanish giants could not bring the 24-year-old Bundesliga midfielder to the Santiago Bernabeu, although they continue to retain a big interest in the five-capped German star.

Manchester United were also keen, as they angled a late move for a new midfielder while viewing Stiller as an alternative to Carlos Baleba. With the deadline fast approaching, there might have been an approach behind the scenes, with some quarters suggesting Stiller snubbed the Red Devils in favour of staying put with Stuttgart.

Arsenal enters Angelo Stiller race

Arsenal are the latest to enter the race for Stiller, with Mikel Arteta eyeing further midfield reinforcements. While they would prefer to make the move with the existing release clause, should Stuttgart manage to raise the figure, they will be in a good position to pay if the club considers the 24-year-old Bundesliga midfielder as a top priority in future windows.

For now, the Gunners are well stocked in their midfield setup, so it may be difficult to see them target a move in January. However, the midfielder might want continuity this season with the World Cup on the horizon, although next summer he could choose between Arsenal or Real Madrid, as well as some other suitors who end up joining the race.
