Barcelona keen on Lisandro Martinez

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez.

Barcelona are on the lookout for a new left-footed centre-back to reinforce their backline, and according to a report from Fichajes, the Catalan giants are interested in the services of Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine centre-back made a name for himself at Ajax before joining Manchester United in the summer of 2022. The 27-year-old has been an integral part of their team since the start. While the Red Devils haven’t achieved much in recent seasons, Martinez has been one of their standout performers when fit.

He is currently recovering from a serious cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep him out until January next year. While he is expected to have a prominent role in Ruben Amorim’s team post his return, his future is becoming a big talking point amidst interest from Barcelona.

The Catalan giants parted ways with Inigo Martinez this summer. Following his departure, they are looking for a new left-footed centre-back, and the Argentine World Cup winner is quite high on their wishlist. Hansi Flick is a massive admirer of the 27-year-old.

Flick wants Martinez at Barcelona

The German manager considers him an ideal fit for his system, as he is comfortable on the ball, can play out from the back, use long passes to great effect, and position himself well. He could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad.

Since he will enter the final year of his contract next summer, Barcelona believe they can snap him up for a bargain price. The player is also keen on making the switch to Spain; he reportedly wants to wear the Barcelona shirt, which is another massive boost for them.

However, his injury track record is a big concern, but it will also lower the cost of the operation. While Flick’s priority will be to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, Martinez is a much more cost-effective option. Given Barcelona’s financial struggles, they see the Argentine defender as a realistic target.
