Axel Disasi likely to leave Chelsea in January amid Crystal Palace, West Ham United links
Axel Disasi is expected to part ways with Chelsea in the winter, amidst interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham United.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Axel Disasi’s departure in January looks inevitable as he is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans moving ahead. He was on the verge of joining AS Monaco in the final days of the window, but the move collapsed due to the club’s loan quota.
Disasi made a name for himself at Monaco before joining the London club in the summer of 2023. While he was expected to have an important role in the team, things didn’t go according to plan. He eventually lost his place in Maresca’s squad and ended up spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
He returned to his parent club in the summer, but there was no place for him in Maresca’s team. As a result, the Blues were ready to sanction his departure, and he was expected to secure an exit before the end of the window. While multiple top clubs were linked with the French defender, none came forward with concrete offers.
Eventually, AS Monaco decided to re-sign the 27-year-old on loan. They even had a verbal agreement in place with the London club. But the move collapsed due to FIFA’s regulations on international loans. Chelsea had already filled the final slot when they agreed to send Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich on a temporary basis.
Disasi to leave Chelsea in January
As a result, there was no room for Disasi to return to Ligue 1. While a move in the summer window couldn’t go through, his departure in the winter is certain, as he is not a part of Chelsea’s Premier League squad.
Since he can still join another English club on loan, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have emerged as potential destinations. The Eagles have been keeping a close eye on the developments. With Marc Guehi expected to leave the club in January, they see Disasi as a ready-made replacement.
The Hammers are also interested in the 27-year-old. However, he doesn’t seem to be keen on joining them despite Graham Potter’s admiration. The Blues will demand full coverage of his salary and a £5 million loan fee, which could further complicate matters.
