Chelsea failed with late move for Jorgen Strand Larsen
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea failed with a last-ditch effort to sign Newcastle United target Jorgen Strand Larsen on deadline day.
According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Wolves attacking sensation Jorgen Strand Larsen on transfer deadline day. The Blues were keen on adding another striker to their squad and contacted his agents regarding a potential transfer, but it wasn’t possible.
Strand Larsen made a name for himself at Celta Vigo before making the move to England last summer. While he initially joined Wolves on a season-long loan, the move was made permanent at the start of the summer thanks to his impressive debut campaign.
The 25-year-old striker was involved in a total of 38 matches last season, and he ended up contributing towards 19 goals. He has carried that form into the new season and has already bagged two goals in the initial weeks.
Newcastle were keen on Strand Larsen
While he still has four years left on his deal with Wolves, there was a lot of talk around his future late in the transfer window. Newcastle United were one of the clubs keen on signing the Norwegian international.
With Alexander Isak moving to Liverpool, the Magpies were looking to add another striker to the mix. They even tabled two offers for the 25-year-old, but Wolves turned them down as they had no intentions of negotiating his departure.
The Tyneside club continued to push for him until the final hours of the window, but Wolves were unwilling to change their stance. Reports suggest that they were even ready to offer him a lucrative deal to secure his long-term future.
Chelsea failed to sign Strand Larsen
Apart from Newcastle, even Chelsea tried to sign the former Celta Vigo star on deadline day. Following a serious injury to summer signing Liam Delap, the Blues decided to block Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich.
But, the Senegalese international wasn’t willing to return to Stamford Bridge; as a result, they eventually gave the green light to his move and shifted their focus towards other targets. They were keen on having Strand Larsen in their squad and spoke to his agents about a potential deadline-day deal.
However, his agents informed the London club that a move wasn’t possible, and it might have a lot to do with Wolves, who had no intentions of letting him leave this summer.
