Fulham revive talks to sign Raheem Sterling

Fulham have revived talks with Raheem Sterling over a late move to Craven Cottage, although the Chelsea winger is possibly seen as an alternate choice.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham have revived their interest in Raheem Sterling as talks are underway over a late move. The Chelsea winger is frozen out of Enzo Maresca’s first team, and while the Cottagers are keen, they do not see the experienced attacker as their first choice for the positions he can play.

Fulham are expecting late arrivals at Craven Cottage before the transfer deadline, as Marco Silva is keen to bring in two wingers. The West London outfit held an interest in Reiss Nelson of Arsenal, and while they were unsure of a potential deal, the English winger has agreed to join Brentford on a loan deal.

The Cottagers did hold an interest in Raheem Sterling earlier in the window, and with the transfer deadline around the corner, Fulham have revived talks for the out-of-favour winger, who cost Chelsea £50 million. The Bleus are eager to get the experienced star off their books, and there is a chance they could once again sanction a loan deal.

Chelsea had originally wanted to sell off Raheem Sterling, but the circumstances might dictate another direction of travel. While Fulham have rekindled their interest, there is no clarity on whether it is for a loan deal or a permanent transfer, although the Cottagers might be leaning towards the former.

Sterling had other suitors during brief periods of the window, with West Ham United one of those keen earlier. The Hammers never followed through their interest with a concrete offer, and Chelsea have thoroughly struggled to find suitors for the £50 million misfit.

Fulham view Raheem Sterling as an alternative choice

Fulham’s late revival of the Sterling talks does indicate an interest, but the experienced Chelsea star is not their priority even on deadline day. They have wanted Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk, and while they have an agreement in place with the Ukrainian side, Fabrizio Romano states personal terms with the Brazilian are yet to be agreed.

Fulham are also in talks for Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan, and together with Kevin, those two are Fulham’s priority choices for the wing positions. However, with an agreement yet to be reached for either of those stars, Fulham view Raheem Sterling as a contingent option for their attacking setup, as the £50 million Chelsea misfit could make back-to-back summer deadline day moves out of Stamford Bridge.
