Aston Villa make their move for Senne Lammens
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have knocked on the doors of Royal Antwerp as they look to sign Senne Lammens.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are keen on acquiring the services of Senne Lammens. They have made a formal approach for the Belgian goalkeeper as they look to beat rivals Manchester United to his signature.
Lammens came up the ranks at Club Brugge. While he got promoted to their first team back in 2020, he never really got a run in their senior team. In search of a prominent role, he ended up joining Royal Antwerp back in 2023.
The 23-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since making the switch. He has established himself as a key figure in their team, and his impressive performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Manchester United are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Belgian shot-stopper. The Red Devils are looking for someone who can rival Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır for a place in their starting XI. The duo have been very inconsistent in goal for Ruben Amorim, and they would love to bring in Lammens.
While they are interested in his services, the Red Devils haven’t stepped up their interest yet, as they are currently focused on more established options. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also in the mix, and they have made moves to beat the Red Devils to his signature.
Lammens could replace Martinez at Villa
Unai Emery’s team are in search of a new shot-stopper amidst uncertainty around Emiliano Martinez’s future. He has been left out of their squad for the game against Crystal Palace, which suggests a deadline day exit could be on the cards.
Manchester United are in talks with Villa to sign the Argentine World Cup winner. If he ends up leaving, Villa would require an ideal replacement, and Lammens is quite high on their wishlist. They have already initiated a move to sign the 23-year-old.
They have made a formal approach to secure his services. He is considered their top target alongside Diogo Costa. It will be interesting to see if the Belgian makes the move to Villa on deadline day.
