Chelsea hijack Leeds United move for Facundo Buonanotte as talks advanced, personal terms agreed
Chelsea have seemingly hijacked Leeds United’s efforts to sign Facundo Buonanotte, following advanced talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over a loan deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have pivoted towards signing Facundo Buonanotte in a late decision from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Blues have seemingly hijacked Leeds United’s efforts to sign the 20-year-old Argentine whizkid, as talks with Brighton & Hove Albion have advanced over a loan deal.
Chelsea have had some plans on how they wanted to close the transfer window after some setbacks with UEFA’s FFP rules. The Blues had wanted to bring Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons on priority, and they may have shelved plans to sign a new defender to prioritise signing those attackers.
However, in the last few days, they may have pivoted from their original plans, and despite Alejandro Garnacho being close to becoming a Chelsea player, they have seemingly opted out of the Simons deal. The Dutchman is now a Tottenham player after the North Londoners agreed on a deal worth €60 million with RB Leipzig.
Chelsea feel they are a bit short in the attacking midfield position, and they have since pivoted to hijack Leeds United’s efforts to bring Facundo Buonanotte. The Brighton & Hove Albion whizkid spent the previous season on loan at Leicester City with mixed results.
Leeds United were among those keen, and talkSPORT confirmed their interest in Buonanotte, although they are now about to lose out to Chelsea. After Garnacho, the Blues are likely to bring the 20-year-old Premier League whizkid before the window shuts, and that may probably be their last piece of business this summer.
Chelsea are in advanced talks for Buonanotte’s loan
Chelsea are now in advanced talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over a loan deal for Buonanotte. The Blues may have preferred to bring the Argentine permanently, but the Seagulls are not planning to sell him for the time being. Hence, the move is leaning towards a loan deal rather than a permanent one.
Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Chelsea were Facundo Buonanotte’s firm choice to make the move away from Brighton & Hove Albion, while stating that previous rumours of a switch to Strasbourg were off the mark. As for Chelsea, it appears they are agreeing to a loan deal out of necessity following their decision on Simons, and it appears Buonanotte will compete with Cole Palmer for the No.10 position.
