Tottenham submit official offer for Xavi Simons, player open to move

Tottenham have made an official offer for Xavi Simons while talks advance with RB Leipzig, as any deal will depend on Chelsea’s stance on the Dutchman.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Tottneham have submitted an official bid to RB Leipzig for the signing of Xavi Simons. Talks between the two clubs remain at an advanced stage, although any move will depend on how Chelsea acts in the race, having already agreed personal terms with the Dutchman.

Tottenham could be inching closer to getting the coveted attacking midfielder they have craved this window. First, it was their failure to land Morgan Gibbs-White in acrimonious circumstances, and then the serious knee injury to James Maddison placed them in a precarious position regarding recruiting in the role.

Then losing out on Eberechi Eze came as a bitter blow to their efforts to land a quality player in the attacking position. However, in the last few days, Tottenham pondered hijacking the Xavi Simons deal under rivals Chelsea’s noses, and so far the ploy has worked in their favour.

It appears Tottenham have made an official bid to RB Leipzig, with the German side demanding at least €70 million to sell the Dutchman. As per Ben Jacobs, Tottenham’s offer is around the €70 million mark, and as both reports state, the two clubs are in advanced talks.

TBR now insists Simons could be open to the move and join Spurs; however, there could be a caveat to the situation are Chelsea are still considered part of the race. The Blues had been the ones in talks with RB Leipzig for the longest period and already have an agreement on personal terms with the 22-year-old target.

Chelsea’s stance could clear the way for Tottenham

Simons had been keen to join Chelsea, and there might be a case that the 22-year-old is still waiting on developments with the Blues. There have been some changes in plans in the background with Chelsea, who are now keen on Fermin Lopez, having parallel talks with Barcelona for a move.

Should Chelsea show seriousness in their pursuit of Lopez, it would all but end their chase of Simons, considering they already have an agreement for Alejandro Garnacho. Hence, the dominoes could fall favourably for Tottenham in the chase of Simons and thus pave the way for the north Londoners to get the Dutchman ahead of Chelsea.
