Newcastle United agree deal to sign Nick Woltemade
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have an agreement in place to sign VfB Stuttgart attacking sensation Nick Woltemade.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Nick Woltemade is all set to join Newcastle United as they have agreed terms with VfB Stuttgart. The Magpies will be paying a club record fee of over €85 million to secure the services of the German international.
Woltemade came up the ranks at Werder Bremen, and after making a name for himself while playing for their first team, the 23-year-old joined Stuttgart last summer. He had an impressive debut campaign as he bagged 17 goals and three assists in his 33 outings.
The 6ft 4in striker’s impressive performances helped him break into the German national team, and multiple top clubs have been keen on prising him away. While he is obviously a massive threat in the air, Woltemade is quite good with the ball at his feet.
He prefers playing up top, but is equally effective playing in behind a striker or in the number ten role. There was no shortage of interest in him, but it seems Newcastle have managed to beat the competition to his signature.
The Magpies have been desperately looking for a new number nine. With Callum Wilson no longer at the club and Alexander Isak’s future still uncertain, they wanted to add a world-class forward to Eddie Howe’s squad.
Woltemade will soon be a Newcastle player
Having failed to sign some of their top targets, the Tyneside club shifted their focus towards Woltemade, who is certainly a massive prospect. Newcastle acted quite swiftly, and they already have an agreement in place to sign the 23-year-old.
The player is excited to be a part of their project and has already given the green light to the move. Now, the Magpies have agreed terms with the German club. They are ready to pay €85 million up front with another €5 million as add-ons.
The German international is travelling to England to undergo a medical at his new club. He has already said goodbye to his teammates at Stuttgart. The Magpies have forked out a fortune on a young striker, who could eventually become one of their mainstays. It seems to be a statement of intent from the Premier League outfit, amidst the Isak transfer saga.
