Leeds United rival Chelsea, Tottenham in Kobbie Mainoo chase
Leeds United will reportedly compete with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to sign 20-year-old Manchester United whizkid Kobbie Mainoo in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Kobbie Mainoo is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on bolstering their midfield unit in the final days of the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Manchester United whizkid. The newly promoted Premier League club will compete with Chelsea and Tottenham for his signature.
Kobbie Mainoo and his situation
Kobbie Mainoo may have reached a crossroads this early in his career. While the young Englishman has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at Manchester United, he has become a backup player for the Premier League club under Ruben Amorim’s tutelage.
The 20-year-old has managed only one outing in three Manchester United games thus far in the 2025/26 season, which came in the EFL Cup second-round defeat to Grimsby Town this week. However, Mainoo’s stock in the market remains high, with Leeds United joining Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for his signature.
A man in demand
Chelsea may have a stacked squad, but they never shy away from overlooking a market opportunity. The outlook has compelled them to pursue a late deal for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Manchester United winger closing in on joining Chelsea. Mainoo has thus emerged as a target for the West London club.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Kobbie Mainoo is understandable. The Lilywhites are ready to offload Yves Bissouma, with the Malian midfielder closing in on joining Galatasaray. Additionally, the Manchester United whizkid can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park alongside Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. So, Mainoo is a viable target for Tottenham.
As for Leeds United, the Whites have heavily reinforced their midfield unit in the summer transfer window, with Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff arriving at Elland Road. However, Mainoo can be a top-class addition to the Leeds United squad, and the Englishman is a viable target for the West Yorkshire outfit.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Mainoo may consider a late departure from Old Trafford. It will be interesting to see if the 20-year-old English international joins Leeds United instead of Chelsea or Tottenham if he leaves Manchester United in the coming days.
