Christopher Nkunku set to join AC Milan as deal and sell-on agreed

Christopher Nkunku is closing in on a move to AC Milan, after the Italian giants reached an agreement with Chelsea for a €42 million fee.

According to The Athletic, AC Milan have reached an agreement with Chelsea for a fee of €42 million to sign Christopher Nkunku. The French attacker was considered for sale by the Blues, and despite attracting massive interest from elsewhere, he has agreed to join the Rossoneri on a five-year deal. Chelsea will also have a sell-on clause, making it exceptional work behind the scenes.

Christopher Nkunku arrived at Chelsea in a pre-agreed deal in 2023 amid much hype following his exploits with RB Leipzig. At the time, the Frenchman was considered one of the top talents in Europe owing to his lethal goalscoring form and attacking prowess.

However, things have not gone as planned at Chelsea, as he endured an injury-ravaged first season and then mostly played second-fiddle in the following campaign. Enzo Maresca barely used him as a key player in his main squad for the Premier League, although the 27-year-old featured heavily in their triumphant UEFA Europa Conference League and Club World Cup campaigns.

Maresca had left the 27-year-old out of his squad for the opening two games of the season, which was due to transfer speculation as the club were open to considering offers. Christopher Nkunku attracted interest from the Bundesliga, where RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich were keen, while there was also admiration from the likes of a few Premier League sides, including Tottenham.

AC Milan had entered the race over the last few days, and now, they have found an agreement with Chelsea. The Rossoneri will pay a fee of €42 million, including add-ons, as Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Nkunku will sign a five-year deal with the Serie A giants.

AC Milan move suits Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku needs a fresh start away from Chelsea, and he has shown his talent in flashes during his spell at Stamford Bridge. AC Milan have struggled in recent seasons, and the club’s eighth-placed finish last season was a testament to their issues.

The 27-year-old would revitalise the ranks at San Siro and bring in a new attacking prowess to this side that lacked a player of his quality. The €42 million fee and sell-on clause represents good value for Christopher Nkunku, and suits all parties concerned, and Milan now have a stellar player for the long-term future.
