Aston Villa eyeing Thomas Kristensen swoop

Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a late move for Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen to bolster their backline after a quiet window overall.

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are eyeing late moves in the transfer market, with Unai Emery seeking a defensive signing before the window shuts. Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen is high on their list, and despite the Dane attracting massive interest during the summer, it could be Aston Villa who make a late approach for his signature.

Aston Villa are probably facing the repercussions of missing out on Champions League football, as they are not as financially fluid like last summer. They have only made two signings so far this summer in Evann Guessand and Marco Bizot, and Unai Emery could still eye new faces before the window slams shut.

The Aston Villa manager is looking at multiple areas of his team to strengthen, and the defence is certainly one of them. While there are not many players being linked with a move to Villa Park before the deadline, there are a few the club are keeping close tabs on from a defensive point of view.

For instance, they are looking at Toulouse’s 18-year-old centre-back Jaydee Canvot, and reportedly formulating an offer to test their resolve. Aston Villa were also mentioned in the race for Jeremy Jacquet alongside Arsenal and Liverpool, while Crystal Palace are also eyeing a late move for the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Udinese centre-back Thomas Kristensen is their latest target, and it seems like Aston Villa could make an offer for the defender before the window shuts. Emery probably wants to add another centre-back to his ranks to manage the load of league and European football, as the club could make an offer for the 23-year-old defender.

Could Aston Villa face competition for Thomas Kristensen?

Kristensen did have many clubs chasing his signature following an impressive time at Udinese. Yet, none of those interested parties came forward with an offer, and this is where Aston Villa could have the upper hand. It remains to be seen how much the Danish defender would cost in the last days of the window, as Emery’s side might be prepared to get a deal over the line.

Everton were keen earlier, while there was interest from Bournemouth as well. Serie A side Bologna are also looking at him as a replacement for Sunderland-linked Jhon Lucumi, with Aston Villa also showing an interest earlier in the summer in the Colombian defender. However, for now, it appears Thomas Kristensen could be a viable target before the deadline.
