West Ham United face Atalanta threat in Soungoutou Magassa chase
Atalanta could reportedly rival West Ham United in their pursuit of AS Monaco midfield sensation Soungoutou Magassa.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham United are keen on signing Soungoutou Magassa before the end of the transfer window. The Hammers have already tabled an offer worth €16 million for the AS Monaco sensation. However, securing his services won’t be that straightforward, as Atalanta have entered the race.
Magassa has been a part of the AS Monaco setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team back in 2022. So far, he has featured in 57 matches for their senior side and has even contributed towards two goals.
While the youngster is yet to establish himself as an integral part of their team, everyone at Monaco is well aware of his massive potential. The 21-year-old was a part of the French team that finished second in the Olympics last summer.
His impressive rise and performances for both club and country have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs. West Ham United are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the French midfielder. Graham Potter seeks more depth in the centre of the park, and he believes Magassa could prove to be a valuable addition for both the short and the long run.
West Ham to face competition from Atalanta
His ability to feature as a defensive midfielder as well as in a more advanced role could come in handy. West Ham have been in talks with AS Monaco of late, and they have already submitted a €16 million bid. While they were working hard to close his signing, a new suitor has emerged.
Atalanta have entered the race for the French sensation. The rising Serie A giants want more quality in the centre of the park and are willing to make a significant investment to sign Magassa. While they are yet to make an offer for the 21-year-old, they have established contact with his entourage to learn more about a potential transfer.
With Atalanta now in the mix, AS Monaco are hoping for a fierce transfer battle, as it could push up the final price of a player in high demand. While the French club are open to negotiating his departure, they remain firmly in control of the situation with his contract running until 2029.
