Senne Lammens closing in on joining Manchester United
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are closing in on signature of Manchester City goalkeeping target Senne Lammens.
According to a report from The Guardian, Senne Lammens could soon complete a move to Manchester United. The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new shot-stopper since the start of the summer, and they are now close to striking a deal with Royal Antwerp for the Belgian sensation.
Lammens came up the ranks at Club Brugge. While the 6ft 3in goalkeeper got promoted to their first team back in 2020, he hardly got any opportunity to cement his spot in their first team. In search of regular first-team action, he joined Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2023 and hasn’t looked back since.
The 6ft 3in shot-stopper has featured in a total of 64 matches and kept a total of 12 clean sheets. His impressive performances and massive potential have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.
Manchester City exploring a move for Senne Lammens
Manchester United and Manchester City are both keen on signing the 23-year-old. While Manchester City did re-sign James Trafford this summer, they are still in the market for another goalkeeper amidst uncertainty around Ederson’s future.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Manchester City have been exploring the Senne Lammens option, as signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG is proving very difficult. The Ligue 1 giants’ asking price are too high for the Premier League giants. As a result, they have been considering making a move for the Belgian.
Manchester United to beat Manchester City to Lammens
The report by The Guardian suggests Manchester United are set to win the race for Senne Lammens’s signature in a deal that would be worth around €20 million. While the Red Devils are not actively looking to sell Andre Onana, they do want a new goalkeeper who can compete with him for a place in the starting XI.
Onana has not been convincing enough since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in a deal worth £44.4 million. Altay Bayindir started ahead of him in their first league game of the season against Arsenal, but a costly error from him resulted in a 1-0 defeat for the Manchester-based giants.
While Manchester United have reinforced their squad this summer, they are not done yet. A new goalkeeper remains a top priority, and they are on the verge of striking a deal with the Belgian club for Lammens. They are yet to agree on personal terms with the 23-year-old, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
