Tottenham join West Ham United in Lorenzo Pellegrini race, establish contact

Tottenham are all set to battle West Ham United in the race for the services of AS Roma attacking midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.

According to Corriere dello Sport via SportWitness, Tottenham have entered the race for the services of Lorenzo Pellegrini. The North London club are all set to rival West Ham United, who have been pushing for his signature since the start of the month.

Pellegrini has been a part of the Roma setup since his childhood. While he did have a two-year spell at Sassuolo, he returned to the club in 2017 and hasn’t looked back since. Over the years, the 29-year-old has been involved in a total of 316 matches for the Italian giants and has contributed towards 114 goals (55 goals, 59 assists).

Last season, he was involved in a total of 34 matches and contributed towards six goals. While he has been a key part of their squad over the years, his future has become a big talking point as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Gian Piero Gasperini, who recently took charge of the Italian club, does not appear to count on Pellegrini going forward, while his wage demands of €6 million per season are seen as too high by Roma. As a result, the Serie A side are looking to cash in, with intermediaries working hard to find him a new club in the final weeks of the transfer window.

London clubs to battle for Pellegrini’s signature

West Ham United have emerged as a potential destination. The Hammers seek more quality in the final third, and they have been in touch with Pellegrini throughout August. They intend to make further moves to try and sign him.

Reports suggest the London club are prepared to spend €5 million to acquire his services. However, they are not the only club interested in him. Tottenham have entered the race for his signature. The North London club have made an enquiry ahead of a potential transfer.

While they are within touching distance of securing the services of Eberechi Eze, Pellegrini could be the cherry on top. He could give Thomas Frank much-needed depth in the final third. However, it will be interesting to see if they formalise their interest with an offer in the coming days.
