Newcastle United in contact for Davide Frattesi move, deal unlikely

Newcastle United may look to sign 25-year-old Italian international Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Sport Witness, Davide Frattesi is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a dynamic midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Inter Milan ace has emerged as a target for the North London club.

The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners have contacted the Rome-born midfielder’s entourage. However, a move to Newcastle United is “very difficult” for the Inter Milan ace, with the Serie A giants viewing him as “an important part of their side” for the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, a report by TEAMtalk has revealed that the Nerazzurri will demand €40 million to part ways with Frattesi, with Newcastle United keen on signing him for €35 million.

Davide Frattesi and his Inter Milan career so far

Davide Frattesi has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri initially signed the 25-year-old on a season-long loan deal in July 2023 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. However, the player has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last two seasons.

The Italian international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Inter Milan while chipping in with 15 goals and nine assists. However, Frattesi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Davide Frattesi has been on Newcastle United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, even though Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton have forged a formidable partnership in the middle of the park. With Newcastle United keen on becoming a UEFA Champions League regular, Eddie Howe needs more quality in every department.

So, Frattesi has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, with the Tyneside outfit establishing contact with his entourage. However, prising the former Sassuolo midfielder away from Inter Milan will be a tall order, as the Serie A giants view him as “an important part” of their plans for the 2025/26 season.

Meanwhile, the report by TEAMtalk has revealed another reason a deal will be complicated, with Inter Milan demanding €40 million to part ways with the 25-year-old Italian international. However, Newcastle United will unlikely fork out €40 million to sign Frattesi, and they value him at around €35 million. So, a summer move may not see the light of day.
