Racing Club de Lens are on the verge of signing Mali international midfielder Mamadou Sangaré (23) from Austrian giants Rapid Wien, according to L’Equipe. The 23-year-old midfielder underwent a medical with Pierre Sage’s Sang et Or this Tuesday. Sangaré was allowed to fly to Northern France after Lens had reached an agreement worth €8m. Sangaré’s deal includes €3m in performance-related add-ons.

Sangaré featured 44 times for Rapid Wien last season, logging three goals and as many assists. The 23-year-old notably reached the UEFA Conference League quarter-finals last season with Rapid Wien. Lens were in need of reinforcements for their midfield after parting ways with Neil El-Aynaoui, who joined AS Roma. Meanwhile, Lens’ Andy Diouf could also be on his way out.

Lens lost their home Ligue 1 opener against Lyon. They face Le Havre on Matchday 2.
