Borussia Dortmund have announced that Sebastien Haller has left the club on a permanent basis to return to Utrecht.

Haller spent the second half of last season on loan at the Eredivisie side where he scored six and assisted once in 18 games. The Ivorian returns to Utecht for a third time on a free transfer and signs a one-year deal at the club until 2026.

On Haller, Sebastian Kehl said:

“Sebastien has written a special story here. He fought his cancer with impressive strength. Now he’s returning to Utrecht – to a club that means a lot to him and for which he has played regularly in recent months. We wish Sebastien all the best for the future and, above all, good health,”

The 31-year-old’s time at Dortmund is well known. His first season at Dortmund was hampered by a cancer diagnosis, which he battled and came back from to help die Schwarzgelben in their pursuit of the Bundesliga title in 2022/23.

However, after missing a penalty on that fateful final day, Haller has struggled and has spent time on loan at Leganes and Utrecht.

In 41 games for Dortmund, the 31-year-old scored 12 and assisted six.
