Fenerbahce table bid to sign Rodrigo Bentancur, Tottenham want more
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have seen their offer for Rodrigo Bentancur fall short of Tottenham Hotspur’s valuation.
According to Sabah via SportWitness, Fenerbahce are keen on reinforcing their midfield before the end of the transfer window. Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for an experienced central midfielder, and Rodrigo Bentancur is quite high on their wishlist.
Bentancur joined Spurs at the start of 2022 after a five-year-long spell at Juventus. The 28-year-old has been a key figure in their team since the start. Last season, he was involved in a total of 44 matches and ended up racking close to 3,000 minutes. He even contributed towards three goals despite having played a defensive midfielder on the majority of the occasions.
While he has been involved in the Super Cup as well as their Premier League opener under Thomas Frank, Bentancur’s future is not certain yet. He has entered the final year of his deal, and following the arrival of Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, Tottenham could actually cash in on him.
Bentancur could be heading to Turkiye
Fenerbahce are aware of his situation in North London and are looking to make the most out of it. The Turkish giants are desperately looking for more quality in midfield following a request from Mourinho. They really like Bentancur and believe he could do wonders for them.
The Yellow Canaries have already made a move to sign the 28-year-old. They have knocked on Tottenham’s door with a €15 million offer. However, the offer is not good enough to get a deal over the line as Frank’s team are asking for €25 million to sanction the departure of the Uruguay international.
While Fenerbahce’s initial offer isn’t good enough, they haven’t given up just yet. Both clubs remain in talks over a potential deal, and they could reach a common ground in the near future. The Turkish giants do have other high-profile targets, but signing Bentancur looks most likely because of his contract situation and Palhinha’s arrival.
