Tottenham hoping to offer bumper new deal to Cristian Romero

Tottenham are hoping to secure the long-term future of their defensive mainstay, Cristian Romero, with a bumper new deal.

Cristian Romero’s long-term future is a major talking point at Tottenham. With two years left on his current deal, he has recently been linked with a move away, prompting Spurs to push for a new and improved contract to secure his services for the long run.

According to a report from TBR, the North London club are prepared to offer him a bumper new deal. Having been in talks since February, they are now confident of reaching an agreement following his discussions with new manager Thomas Frank.

After making a name for himself at Atalanta, Romero joined the North London club back in 2021. While it was an initial loan deal, it was made permanent in the summer of 2022. The Argentine international has only gone from strength to strength since moving to England.

He is widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world, and since he is only 27, multiple top clubs are keen on adding him to their squad. With just two years left on his deal, Atletico Madrid did make an attempt to sign him earlier in the summer.

Tottenham prepare a bumper new deal

Diego Simeone was very keen on securing his services, and the Spanish giants did push hard. However, things didn’t go according to plan for them. He has ended up staying in N17, and now, a new contract could be back on the cards after positive talks with Thomas Frank.

They have already made a stunning start to the new campaign with a 3-0 win over Burnley, and it could go a long way in convincing him to commit his long-term future to the project. Romero seems to be interested in being a part of the new project under Frank, following talks between the two.

Spurs are ready to offer him a bumper new deal. They are willing to make him the highest-paid player in their squad, having already appointed him as their new skipper following the departure of Son Heung-min. If all goes according to plan, the North London club could end up extending his stay at the club in the near future.
