AS Roma trying to seal Leon Bailey deal today, details revealed
Italian giants AS Roma have stepped up their pursuit of Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey as they look to finalise the deal today.
According to Orazio Accomando, AS Roma are keen on acquiring the services of Leon Bailey. The Serie A giants are looking to finalise the deal by the end of the day. They have already stepped up their efforts and are within touching distance of his signature.
Bailey made a name for himself while playing for Bayer Leverkusen. On the back of his impressive performances for the German club, Aston Villa secured his services in the summer of 2021. While he was an integral part of their first team in the initial years, things have only gone downhill for him of late.
He was a regular feature in Unai Emery’s team until the 2023/24 season. However, a lot has changed over the last 12 months. The 28-year-old has gone down the pecking order, racking up just over 2,000 minutes of first-team action last season.
Bailey could soon secure a move to AS Roma
While he still has two years left on his deal, he is no longer an integral part of Emery’s plans. He has been linked with a move away from the club since the start of the summer, and a move to AS Roma could soon materialise.
The Italian giants seek more quality on the flanks, and they consider Bailey an ideal option to bolster their attack. The Jamaican international’s pace and his ability to ease past defenders could do wonders for them. The Villa winger prefers playing on the right, but he could feature on the left as well.
Roma have been in talks with Villa for a while now, and as per Accomando, both parties could finalise a deal today. The next few hours are considered very important for the deal. It is expected to be a loan move with an initial fee of €4 million and a buy option worth €16 million.
Roma chief Frederic Massara is in constant contact with Monchi, and agents are in Italy to get things done. With talks already very advanced, the transfer could be finalised soon.
