West Ham United eyeing Ngal’ayel Mukau as Ajax target Edson Alvarez
Ajax will reportedly look to re-sign Edson Alvarez from West Ham United, with the East London club eyeing Ngal’ayel Mukau as the Mexican midfielder’s replacement.
According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Edson Alvarez is the subject of interest from Ajax, with West Ham United considering LOSC Lille midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau as the Mexican midfielder’s replacement. The former Ajax captain is keen on returning to Amsterdam in the summer transfer window.
However, the Eredivisie club’s financial situation has complicated a possible deal for the West Ham United midfielder. Meanwhile, the Hammers are open to parting ways with Alvarez after identifying Mukau as a long-term replacement for the Tlalnepantla native.
Edson Alvarez has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining West Ham United from Ajax in a deal worth €38 million in August 2023. The 27-year-old has never been consistent enough in the middle of the park. The player has turned out over 50 times thus far for West Ham United while chipping in with two goals and three assists.
On the other hand, Ngal’ayel Mukau has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from KV Mechelen last summer. The Belgian-born DR Congo international has turned out 36 times thus far for Les Dogues while chipping in with two goals and one assist. The 20-year-old midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including West Ham United.
West Ham United’s interest in Ngal’ayel Mukau is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a holding midfielder this summer after Guido Rodriguez failed to make his mark in his debut season. With Rodriguez and Edson Alvarez facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium, several candidates, including Aleix Garcia, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Mukau also a viable target.
Speaking of Alvarez, Ajax will look to re-sign the 27-year-old Mexican international, with the experienced midfielder keen on returning to the Eredivisie club in the summer transfer window. Edson Alvarez’s departure will see West Ham pursu Mukau’s signature.
It is unclear how much LOSC Lille will demand to part ways with the 20-year-old DR Congo international after the Ligue 1 club signed him last summer. It will be interesting to see if Mukau replaces Alvarez at West Ham in the coming days.
