Galatasaray lodge formal offer to sign Ederson Moraes

Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are reportedly interested in signing 31-year-old Brazilian international Ederson Moraes from Manchester City this summer.

According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ederson Moraes is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. The Turkish giants are keen on signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 31-year-old Manchester City shot-stopper has emerged as a target for Cimbom.

The 2024/25 Turkish Super Lig champions have submitted their opening bid to sign the former SL Benfica goalkeeper, offering around €10 million. However, Manchester City will demand a higher fee to part ways with the player, who wants to leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window, as per Graeme Bailey on TBR Football.

Ederson Moraes and his Manchester City spell so far

Ederson Moraes has become a household name since joining Manchester City from SL Benfica in a deal worth €40 million in July 2017. While the 31-year-old has not been as consistent as he would have liked in the last few years, his ability on the ball is second to none among his peers.

The Brazilian international has turned out over 350 times thus far for Manchester City while keeping 168 clean sheets and conceding 311 goals. However, the veteran goalkeeper’s long-term future at Manchester City is uncertain, as the Citizens have re-signed James Trafford and want to secure Gianluigi Donnarumma’s services. Galatasaray will aim to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

Will Galatasaray sign the Brazilian goalkeeper?

Galatasaray’s interest in Ederson Moraes makes sense. The Turkish champions have been scouring the market for a world-class goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after parting ways with their long-serving captain, Fernando Muslera, who has moved to Argentina. So, the Manchester City goalkeeper has emerged as a viable target for Galatasaray.

Widespread reports have suggested that personal terms will not be an issue for Cimbom, with the former SL Benfica goalkeeper keen on joining the club. That may have been the impetus for Galatasaray to submit a formal bid, with the Turkish Super Lig champions offering around €10 million to secure his services.

With the 31-year-old Brazilian international keen on leaving Manchester City after falling in the pecking order, joining Galatasaray appeals to him. However, the Turkish outfit’s bid of around €10 million falls below Manchester City’s asking price. So, it will be interesting to see if the two clubs find a common ground on the transfer fee.
