AS Roma line up Leon Bailey move, Monchi preference revealed

Serie A club AS Roma will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Jamaican international Leon Bailey from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, Leon Bailey is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Aston Villa wide player has emerged as a target for the Giallorossi.

The Italian heavyweights have established contact with Aston Villa, with a separate report by Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting talks between the two clubs have begun. Meanwhile, Corriere dello Sport has revealed Monchi’s preference, with the Aston Villa director looking to sanction a loan deal with a purchase option worth €25 million.

Leon Bailey has reached a crossroads in his career after struggling for regular starts in the 2024/25 season. While the Kingston native has made considerable progress since joining Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2021, his stock has fallen in the last 12 months.

The 28-year-old managed only 2,072 minutes of game time across 38 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with two goals and seven assists. So, it is hardly surprising that the Jamaican international faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa. Bailey’s next destination may be Italy, with AS Roma among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

AS Roma’s interest in Leon Bailey is understandable. Gian Piero Gasperini wants to leave his imprint at Stadio Olimpico after arriving at the Serie A club a few weeks ago. Several candidates, including Jadon Sancho, have emerged on AS Roma’s radar, with Bailey also being a viable target.
