Leeds United front-runners to sign Bilal El Khannouss after submitting contract offer
Daniel Farke’s Leeds United are leading the race for the signature of Leicester City attacking sensation Bilal El Khannouss.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Leeds United have stepped up their pursuit of Bilal El Khannouss. The Yorkshire-based outfit are now the front-runners to sign the Leicester City attacking midfielder, having tabled a contract offer.
While Arsenal and Newcastle United are also keen on signing the Moroccan international, Leeds United are in pole position to bring him back to the Premier League before the end of the transfer window.
Bilal El Khannouss came up the ranks at KRC Genk and made a name for himself while playing for the first team before joining Leicester City last summer. While the Foxes did not have the best of times last season as they ended up getting relegated from the Premier League, the 21-year-old was one of their standout performers with eight goal contributions in 36 outings.
The Championship season is already underway, and the Moroccan international has managed to bag two goals in the opening fixture. While he still has three years left on his deal, El Khannouss seems set for an immediate return to the top flight, amidst interest from Leeds United, Newcastle United, and Arsenal.
The Gunners have been closely monitoring Bilal El Khannouss for a while, but they have yet to step up their interest in him. Meanwhile, the Magpies have been in touch with the player’s camp. However, they have not made any concrete progress.
Leeds United closing in on signing El Khannouss
As a result, Leeds United have leapfrogged Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race for his signature. Daniel Farke is keen on having enough quality and depth in his squad to ensure they can survive in the top flight. They view Bilal El Khannouss as someone who can help them out in the short and long run.
They have offered the 21-year-old a weekly salary of £50,000 and have been in talks with his representatives. Leeds United are ready to trigger his £24.5 million release clause to get a deal over the line. The Yorkshire-based club have taken the most concrete steps to sign him, and as things stand, they should be able to get a deal over the line in the near future.
