Aston Villa begin move to re-sign Marco Asensio

Aston Villa will reportedly look to re-sign 29-year-old Spanish international Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain outcast has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.

The Villans have already initiated the move to re-sign the Spaniard in the summer transfer window, exploring the possibility of securing his services. Aston Villa will be open to securing Asensio’s services on a permanent deal or a loan arrangement in the coming days.

Marco Asensio waiting for the next move in his career

Marco Asensio has reached another crossroads in his career, only two years after completing a Bosman move to Paris Saint-Germain. While the 29-year-old attacker was impressive during his loan spell with Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 season, he has not completed a permanent move to Villa Park.

The Spanish international revived his stuttering fortunes after striking a formidable offensive partnership with Marcus Rashford. Asensio chipped in with eight goals and one assist in only 1,119 minutes of game time for Aston Villa. However, while a permanent move to Aston Villa did not see the light of day, the Villans have begun the move to re-sign him in the summer transfer window.

Can Aston Villa re-sign Asensio?

Recent reports have suggested that intermediaries have offered Marco Asensio to several European bigwigs. However, with those moves not seeing the light of day thus far in the summer transfer window, Aston Villa will have the opportunity to re-sign the PSG outcast.

Aston Villa’s interest in re-signing the Spaniard is understandable. Evann Guessand is the only attacker to reinforce the West Midlands club’s offensive unit. With Marcus Rashford and Asensio leaving a gaping hole in Aston Villa’s attack, they must sign at least one more forward in the summer transfer window.

The report suggests that the Villans are considering a permanent move and a loan deal as viable options to re-sign Asensio. While other options remain on Aston Villa’s wishlist, it will be interesting to see if the 29-year-old Spanish international will return to Villa Park in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
