Tottenham face frustration in pursuit of Nico Paz due to Real Madrid decision

Real Madrid could potentially block Tottenham from signing Como talent Nico Paz, as the Spanish giants potentially have full control of his future.

According to TBR, Tottenham’s potential pursuit of Nico Paz could prove overly complicated due to Real Madrid’s power and control over the player. Como are actively trying to buy the attacking midfielder’s rights from the Spanish giants, although Florentino Perez wants the player back at the club in the future.

Nico Paz proved his worth as one of the promising talents in world football when Como made the bet on him. The Argentine is the cornerstone of Cesc Fabregas’ project and how much the club have improved last season.

Como will be aiming to build their project around Paz, but they are probably aware that the player might leave for a bigger club. However, with Real Madrid inserting several key clauses, the Italian side barely has any power when it comes to benefiting from the player, both in terms of longevity and sale value.

Real Madrid have a buy-back clause that modestly increases every year until 2027. They also have a 50% sell-on clause as well as matching rights, which gives them total control of the player and his future. Florentino Perez desires Paz to be a part of the Real Madrid project in the future, and as per the report, the club supremo wants to bring him back in 2026.

Tottenham had been interested in Paz, but the presence of Real Madrid makes it extremely difficult for them to make a move for the Serie A whizkid who had 15 goal contributions in Serie A last season. Spurs are in the market for an attacking midfielder, with links to Harvey Elliott among others, and now, Real Madrid may not allow them to make a move for Paz.

Tottenham want a new attacking midfielder

The potential season-ending injury to James Maddison has thrown Spurs back into the market for an attacking midfielder. With the idea of signing Paz likely to backfire, Spurs are already looking at Eberechi Eze as a potential option, with the team in talks with the player and Crystal Palace.

Arsenal could threaten Spurs in the Eze pursuit, as they are seen as the player’s preferred choice from reports earlier. Signing Eze would be a good idea for Tottenham to cover or even replace Maddison, but should they fail in that pursuit, Thomas Frank may have to pivot to another alternative.
