AS Monaco eyeing Kieran Trippier swoop

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has been linked with a move away from the club, and Ligue 1 club AS Monaco want to sign him in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Kieran Trippier is the subject of interest from AS Monaco. The Ligue 1 giants are “weighing up an approach” to Newcastle United for the veteran English full-back.

The experienced defender could prove to be a useful acquisition for the Ligue 1 outfit. Newcastle United already have Tino Livramento ahead of him in the pecking order, and it seems unlikely that they will stand in his way.

Trippier is in the twilight stages of his career, and this is the right time for Newcastle United to move him on. The Tyneside outfit should look to sell the player and bring in a younger backup option to Livramento, who will not go anywhere this summer.

Newcastle United paid £12 million to sign the Englishman from Atletico Madrid, and they will be hoping to sell him for a reasonable price as well. It remains to be seen whether AS Monaco follow up on their interest with an official offer to get the deal done.

Trippier would be ideal for AS Monaco

The Ligue 1 outfit need more depth and quality in the defensive unit, and Trippier could be a useful acquisition. He has proven himself in the Premier League and La Liga. There is no doubt that he has the attributes to succeed in Ligue 1 as well.

This could be the right time for the veteran English full-back to make a change and take on a new challenge. Sitting on the bench at Newcastle United will not appeal to him at this stage of his career. He will look to play as much as possible, and AS Monaco might be able to provide him with that opportunity.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United need to add more quality and depth to the side before the new season begins. It has been a disappointing window for them so far, and they have not been able to bring in most of their transfer targets. It remains to be seen whether they can step up their efforts to improve the squad over the next few days.

They need to add a quality central defender, a reliable creative midfielder, and a quality centre-forward to replace Alexander Isak if he moves on. Moving on some of their fringe players, like Trippier, will help bring in the funds to strengthen the squad further.
