Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa sounded out over Joel Ordonez move

A host of Premier League sides are alert to the possibility of Joel Ordonez moving, as they could potentially hijack Marseille’s move for the Ecuadorian defender.

According to TBR, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa are on high alert for the possibility of defender Joel Ordonez moving in this window. Marseille are inching closer to signing the Ecuadorian centre-back this summer, as there might be a possibility of a hijack.

Many top teams in the Premier League are eager to land defensive signings before the transfer window shuts. Apart from Arsenal and Manchester City, probably most clubs are seeking reinforcements at the back, especially in the central areas, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa among those in that regard.

Those teams are now alert to the situation with Joel Ordonez, who could leave Club Brugge this summer. Liverpool and Aston Villa were linked earlier this year, while Chelsea have run the rule over the defender before the January window, at a time when a move to Stamford Bridge looked likely.

Marseille are inching closer to signing the Ecuadorian defender, although Premier League clubs could plot a hijack for the 21-year-old defender. Starting with Liverpool, they did not have a single central defender on the bench during their loss to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. They are interested in Marc Guehi as the main centre-back option, while the Merseysiders are serious about landing Giovanni Leoni from Parma.

Aston Villa are also looking to make late deals in the market, as central defence is certainly an area of concern for Unai Emery. They are in a position to offer a healthy amount of game time to the 21-year-old defender, but there are doubts whether Ordonez will start regularly, with the same argument valid for Liverpool.

Chelsea and Tottenham angling Ordonez move

Chelsea have problems at the back following the ACL injury to Levi Colwill, as Enzo Maresca claimed he wanted a new centre-back. There are links to Ronald Araujo, while Guehi was also mentioned in a few reports. The idea of Orzonez might excite those in charge of transfers at Stamford Bridge, as the defender fits into their strategy.

Tottenham have decent depth at the back, but Thomas Frank does not want the team to be in a situation akin to last season. With Champions League football back in north London, there’s a clear need to add depth options at the back and other positions.
