Tottenham, Newcastle United fail with €50 million bids to sign Ferran Torres
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have failed with their attempt to sign Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres.
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham and Newcastle United are both keen on acquiring the services of Ferran Torres. The English clubs have him as a priority target, and they knocked on Barcelona’s door with a €50 million offer, but it has been turned down by the Spanish giants.
Torres came up the ranks at Valencia and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining Manchester City. After an 18-month spell in the Premier League, he made the move to the Catalan giants at the start of 2022 in a deal worth €55 million.
The initial years at Barcelona were not that easy for the Spanish international, and they were ready to offload him. While Aston Villa didn’t come forward with a €20 million bid, it wasn’t good enough to strike a deal with the La Liga giants. Despite the failed move, the Birmingham-based club do retain interest in him.
He ended up staying at the club and has since worked his way into Hansi Flick’s plans. Despite not being a regular starter, the 25-year-old is considered an integral part of their plans thanks to his impact from the bench last season.
Torres was involved in a total of 45 matches, and he ended up contributing towards 26 goals in less than 2,000 minutes of first-team action. While he still has two years left on his deal, multiple top clubs in England want to prise him away and are willing to offer him a prominent role in their team.
Barcelona turn down offers for Torres
Apart from Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United are quite keen on his signature. Both clubs are looking to add more firepower to their attack, and they consider Torres an ideal fit for their team thanks to his versatility and his ability to contribute in the final third.
He is a priority target for them, and thanks to his short tenure in the Premier League, they feel he could be an immediate answer for some of their problems. Both clubs came forward and tabled an offer worth €50 million.
While it is a significant financial offer for a club like Barcelona, who are struggling to manage their finances, Hansi Flick has requested that the core of his team remains unchanged. He highly values Torres’ contribution; as a result, they have turned down the offer.
Meanwhile, the player is more than happy to continue at Barcelona and is also willing to sign a new deal, as he is loving life under Flick. However, things could change if the English clubs return with an improved offer.
