Oliver Glasner rules out Crystal Palace move for Raheem Sterling
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has dismissed speculation linking Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling with a move to Selhurst Park.
Raheem Sterling’s future has been a major talking point since the start of the summer. The England international has no future at Chelsea, and the club are ready to cash in on him. While he has been linked with multiple top clubs, nothing concrete has materialised so far.
Recent reports suggested a potential move to Crystal Palace. However, their manager, Oliver Glasner, has shut down those rumours, making it clear that the Eagles have no interest in signing him and have not been working on a potential transfer.
Crystal Palace have no interest in Sterling
When asked about Palace potentially signing Sterling, Glasner said via : “I didn’t even know he was linked.”
The Eagles haven’t been particularly active in the ongoing transfer window, having made just two additions to their defence so far. With deadline day fast approaching, Glasner’s team are expected to make a few more signings.
Amid uncertainty over Eberechi Eze’s long-term future, they would like to add more firepower to their attack. While Sterling could have been a strong addition, Palace already have three right-wingers.
Even if they do pursue another forward, their preference would likely be for a left-winger or a versatile attacker who could help offset the potential loss of Eze. As such, their lack of interest in Sterling makes sense.
With the Palace door now firmly closed, the 30-year-old winger’s camp will have to look elsewhere. Despite having two years left on his Chelsea deal, Sterling is well down the pecking order and is unlikely to see much game time if he stays at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling had hoped to revive his career with a loan spell at Arsenal last season, but the move didn’t go to plan, impacting the level of interest in his services. Fulham are among the clubs linked with the England international, though it remains uncertain whether they will table an offer.
