Mateo Joseph closing in on joining RCD Mallorca

Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph is reportedly closing in on joining La Liga club RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan deal.

According to a report by Beren Cross and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Mateo Joseph is the subject of interest from RCD Mallorca. The Vermilions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Leeds United centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Spanish outfit.

Leeds United and RCD Mallorca are finalising a season-long loan after the Barralet submitted an offer to the newly promoted Premier League outfit. The deal will not include a purchase option, while the Spaniard has “agreed to the move and is awaiting the green light” from Leeds United.

Mateo Joseph and his exit desire

Mateo Joseph has made gradual progress since joining Leeds United from Espanyol in January 2022. The Santander native has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last three and a half years, having shared game time with Joel Piroe in the final third, and he has not been as productive as he would have liked.

The Spanish striker has turned out 73 times thus far for Leeds United while chipping in with six goals and four assists. With regular game time eluding him, Joseph wants to embark on a new adventure this summer. The youngster’s stock in the market is high, particularly in La Liga. RCD Mallorca will likely be the Leeds United attacker’s next destination in the summer transfer window.

La Liga move beckons

RCD Mallorca’s interest in Mateo Joseph is understandable. The Vermilions have been scouring the market for a striker this summer, as Abdon Prats is on the wrong side of 30 and Marc Domenech is at the inception of his career. Jagoba Arrasate thus wants RCD Mallorca to sign a younger striker, with Joseph emerging as a viable target.

The 21-year-old Spaniard has no qualms about joining RCD Mallorca, as he has been keen on moving to La Liga this summer. The Barralet and Leeds United are now finalising a season-long loan deal, with the Spanish outfit submitting an offer without a purchase option. While they have met Leeds United’s desire to sanction a loan deal, it is unclear if the proposal will satisfy the West Yorkshire outfit.

Meanwhile, personal terms are not an issue for Joseph, as the young attacker has “agreed to the move and is awaiting the green light from Leeds United” to complete the summer switch. So, while other La Liga clubs like Real Betis and Girona were keen on signing the Spanish striker, his next destination will likely be RCD Mallorca.
