Manchester City reject AS Roma bid to sign Claudio Echeverri
AS Roma recently offered to sign 19-year-old Argentine wonderkid Claudio Echeverri on a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause, with Manchester City rejecting the bid.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Claudio Echeverri is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 19-year-old Manchester City wonderkid emerged as a target for the Giallorossi.
The Italian club offered to sign the South American attacking sensation on loan from Manchester City with a purchase obligation worth €33 million. However, the Premier League bigwigs have rejected the Serie A outfit’s proposal, as they “have no intention of losing control of the player” and prefer to send him to Girona.
Claudio Echeverri and his rise
Claudio Echeverri is the latest highly-rated wonderkid to join Manchester City and promises a bright future for the first-team squad. The Resistencia native spent his formative years in Argentina and graduated from the youth division at River Plate before Manchester City came calling last year.
The 19-year-old already has experience of winning silverware for his club and country, and he has enjoyed a solid start to life at Manchester City, scoring once in three outings. Meanwhile, the Argentine prodigy’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe that want to seal a loan deal. AS Roma will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Serie A move fails
AS Roma’s interest in Claudio Echeverri is understandable. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a versatile attacker amid a summer of rebuild that has seen half a dozen player arrive at Stadio Olimpico. With Gian Piero Gasperini eager to mould the squad in his image, several candidates have emerged on AS Roma’s radar.
While Echeverri has been a viable target for AS Roma, the Giallorossi will unlikely secure his services after failing with a bid to sign him on a season-long loan deal with a purchase obligation clause worth €33 million. Manchester City did not want to “lose control of the player” in a factor that led to the rejection.
The Premier League heavyweights prefer to send the 19-year-old Argentine wonderkid on loan to La Liga outfit Girona, a club in the same ownership group. So, AS Roma must look elsewhere for a young playmaker in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
