West Ham United making progress in talks to sign Idrissa Gueye

West Ham United have reportedly made significant progress in talks to sign Manchester United attacking target Idrissa Gueye.

FC Metz will struggle to keep hold of Idrissa Gueye as multiple top clubs from across Europe are keen on signing the Senegalese international this summer. According to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, West Ham United are in talks to sign the teenage attacking sensation, with discussions with the African attacker’s camp progressing well.

Gueye made a name for himself while playing for Senegal’s Generation Foot before joining French club FC Metz at the start of 2025. The young striker was involved in a total of 17 Ligue 2 fixtures in the second half of the season, and he ended up contributing towards six goals.

He impressed everyone with his finishing, link-up play, and maturity beyond his years. Gueye played a big part in Metz’s promotion to the top flight; his performances have put him on the radar of clubs like Manchester United and West Ham United.

While the youngster’s contract at the Ligue 1 club runs until the summer of 2029, they are aware that it will be difficult to retain his services and are ready to negotiate his departure for a minimum of €15 million.

Premier League clubs to battle for Gueye’s signature

Manchester United are currently fully focused on securing the services of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. While their priority is to land the Slovenian international at the club before the end of the transfer window, they are also closely monitoring Gueye, who could prove to be a great acquisition for the long run.

Meanwhile, West Ham United are working hard to beat the competition to his signature. While they have added free agent Callum Wilson to their squad, Graham Potter still wants more depth in the final third and feels Gueye could be an ideal addition to their team.

The Hammers are in talks with the player’s camp, and they have already made significant progress during those discussions. West Ham United are preparing an offer that could help them beat the competition and secure the services of the teenager, who seems to have a great future ahead.
