Darwin Nunez set to sign €15 million-a-year contract with Al-Hilal as Liverpool deal agreed
Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez is reportedly on the cusp of joining Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal this summer.
According to an update by German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Darwin Nunez will sign a mega-money €15 million-a-year contract with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal. Meanwhile, reputed Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool will receive €53 million when they sanction the Uruguayan striker’s sale in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has endured a mediocre spell at Liverpool, and he has not been able to live up to expectations. When Nunez joined the Reds under Jurgen Klopp, he was expected to develop into a world-class player. He had an exceptional spell with Benfica, but the move to Liverpool never really worked out for him. He was quite poor with his decision-making and finishing in the final third.
Liverpool needed a more clinical presence up front, and they have invested in Hugo Ekitike this summer. They are looking to sign the Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak as well. It makes no sense for them to keep the 26-year-old Uruguayan international at the club, and it is a wise decision to sell him, especially for €53 million. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can invest the proceeds from his departure into the playing squad.
Liverpool need more quality in the side
Liverpool have a talented squad at their disposal, and they managed to win the Premier League title last season. They will look to defend their domestic crown and do well in Europe as well. The Reds will be disappointed with the way their UEFA Champions League campaign culminated last term. They will feel that they could have gone on to win the competition.
The Premier League champions have been very active in the transfer market so far, and they have brought in quality signings. Getting rid of their fringe players will be a priority as well. It remains to be seen whether they can invest the proceeds from the departure of the South American into the playing squad.
If Liverpoolcan add another quality wide player and a striker, they will have a complete squad for the upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old will look to get his career back on track with regular football in Saudi Arabia. He struggled for regular game time at Liverpool last season, and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career.
