Benjamin Sesko set to join Manchester United as full agreement reached

Manchester United have struck an agreement with RB Leipzig for the transfer of Benjamin Sesko, with Newcastle United set to lose out.

Fabrizio Romano has given his Here We Go for the transfer of Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United. The Premier League giants have agreed a package with RB Leipzig to the tune of €85 million, including add-ons, with Newcastle United set to lose out on their priority target.

The Benjamin Sesko case has been one of the long-running sagas of this summer window, which may have concluded. Since the start of the window, Arsenal were seen as the primary contenders for the Slovenian international, but backed away after RB Leipzig refused to back away from their asking price for the striker.

With Arsenal moving on and eventually signing Viktor Gyokeres, the race for Sesko has been left open for other suitors to make their move. Newcastle United were the first club to table a bid for the striker, and they subsequently improved their offer before Manchester United followed suit thereafter.

Manchester United made their bid for Benjamin Sesko, and despite RB Leipzig accepting the most recent Newcastle United proposal, the player’s call proved important. Sesko had his heart set on joining Manchester United, even without the absence of UEFA Champions League football.

The Red Devils had been closing in on an agreement, and Fabrizio Romano has given his Here We Go for the transfer. Manchester United are set to pay a fee of €76.5 million in fixed payments with a further €8.5 million in add-ons, which effectively takes the deal to the figure of €85 million, which is what Leipzig wanted in the first place.

Have Manchester United signed the right striker?

The transfer fee to sign Benjamin Sesko is reminiscent of what Manchester United paid for Rasmus Hojlund two years ago, and the Dane has been deemed a failure at Old Trafford. Now, they have forked out significantly for a player who contributed to 27 goals last season, and one who still lacks consistency.

Whether they have made the right decision in signing another project striker for a high fee remains the question. For now, fans will hope that the club’s decision will pay off, and the striker can flourish under a progressive manager like Ruben Amorim.
