Luka Vuskovic open to Hamburger SV move, Tottenham will have to cover most of his wages
Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic has been linked with a summer move away from the North London club.
According to German publication Bild, the Tottenham wonderkid is open to joining German club Hamburger SV. Tottenham paid €11 million for him and hope he can develop into an important player.
If Tottenham cannot provide him with regular opportunities next season, it would make sense to send him out on loan. However, Hamburger SV want Tottenham to cover most of his wages, and such terms may not suit the Tottenham hierarchy.
It remains to be seen what Tottenham decide. Vusković is undoubtedly a promising player with a bright future, and regular game time in Germany could be ideal for his development. For the move to go through, the German side might need to be more flexible with their terms.
Vuskovic needs game time
Vusković has performed impressively for Tottenham during pre-season, but it remains to be seen if he can find a club where he will receive ample opportunities. He has the tools to become a top-class player, and regular football next season could accelerate his development. He hopes to return to Tottenham a better player next summer and force his way into the starting lineup.
At this stage, he is not ready to start in the Premier League for a club like Tottenham, but sitting on the bench at the North London side would not help his development. A loan move could be ideal for the young defender right now.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have appointed a high-quality manager in Thomas Frank and will look to enhance their squad before the transfer window closes. Adding quality players is crucial if they aim to return to the Champions League through league placings and to compete for domestic trophies. It remains to be seen if they can secure established stars who can immediately strengthen the squad.
As for the young players, they need to focus on their development. Sending them out on loan at ideal environments will be crucial to the development.
