Borussia Dortmund advancing talks to sign Carney Chukwuemeka
Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are engaged in advanced talks for the transfer of forgotten midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Carney Chukwuemeka could be headed back to Germany as Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are engaged in advanced talks for the midfielder’s transfer. The English midfield prospect has no future at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues continuing to insist on a permanent move for the midfielder.
Carney Chukwuemeka increasingly feels like a missed trick from how his career has panned out so far. Having come out of Aston Villa as one of the promising gems for the future, the highly-rated midfielder has more or less been forgotten after a series of injuries and a loss of form.
Chelsea signed Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa in a £20 million deal back in 2022, as one of the first signings of the new ownership group at Stamford Bridge. While the Englishman enjoyed a decent start ot life at the club, injuries have severely hampered his progress since.
Chukwuemeka had hovered around Chelsea until January 2025, when he found a way to leave and sign with Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan deal. He had been angling for a stay at the German side, with earlier reports by the end of the season indicating a possibility of the two clubs engaging in an exchange deal involving Jamie Gittens.
Borussia Dortmund had been keen to land the £20 million Chelsea prospect on another loan deal, but the Blues were insistent on a permanent transfer. In the past few weeks, the talk of a move to Dortmund had cooled down until this point, as Fabrizio Romano insisted that talks between the two clubs are ongoing.
Borussia Dortmund to sign Chukwuemeka
As talks between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund cooled down over the recent period, RB Leipzig had been interested in Chukwuemeka. However, it might be the player pushing to re-sign for Dortmund as he angles a departure from Chelsea. While the Bundesliga giants angled another loan move, they might have to find a permanent agreement to get the £20 million Chelsea prospect on board.
Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are engaged in advanced talks for the midfielder’s transfer, with the move likely to accelerate in the coming days. The demands from the Blues about the fee remain unclear, although Dortmund are still expected to pay considerably for Carney Chukwuemeka.
