West Ham United given deadline to seal Roberto Piccoli deal

Graham Potter’s West Ham United reportedly have until August 15 to sign Cagliari attacking sensation Roberto Piccoli.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, West Ham United have been handed a deadline to complete the signing of Roberto Piccoli. While Cagliari are willing to sanction his departure for around €25-30 million, they will only sell him before 15th August as they want to ensure a competitive squad for the new season.

Things might not have gone according to plan for Piccoli at Atalanta, but he has certainly turned things around since joining Cagliari. The 24-year-old initially joined them on a season-long loan before the move was made permanent at the start of July for €12 million.

During his loan spell, Piccoli was involved in a total of 40 matches, and he ended up contributing towards 15 goals (11 goals, 4 assists). The Italian striker’s performances did not go unnoticed as multiple top clubs are now looking to prise him away.

While it has only been a few weeks since he secured a permanent move to Cagliari, the Italian club are ready to sanction his departure as they want to make a quick profit. They want around €25 to €30 million to part ways with the 24-year-old.

Como and West Ham United are two clubs that are very keen on signing the Italian striker. Reports earlier suggested that Cagliari were hoping for a bidding war and that the Hammers needed to rush to avoid losing out on him, amidst interest from Cesc Fabregas’s team.

West Ham have a race against time to sign Piccoli

The Italian media continue to put pressure on the East London club. While Graham Potter’s team certainly have more financial resources than Como, the report suggests West Ham will have to act within a deadline. Cagliari want Roberto Piccoli’s sale to happen as quickly as possible so that they can reinvest the money raised to bolster their squad.

While the Hammers can certainly meet Cagliari’s demands, time is running out as they want to conclude the sale before the 15th of August. The Italian club wants to ensure they have a competitive squad for the new season, and selling Piccoli post the deadline could complete things for them.

Graham Potter’s team have added Callum Wilson to their squad, but they do need a younger alternative, and Roberto Piccoli could prove to be an ideal addition for the long run. As a result, it won’t be a surprise if West Ham do end up signing him within the next ten days.
