West Ham United eyeing Viktor Johansson swoop

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Swedish international Viktor Johansson from Championship club Stoke City in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Swedish outlet Sport Bladet, Viktor Johansson is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Stoke City shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.

Who is Viktor Johansson?

Viktor Johansson has established himself as one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the EFL Championship since joining Stoke City from Rotherham United last summer. A native of Stockholm, the Swede spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Hammarby IF.

However, the 26-year-old has risen in prominence since moving to England, although he needed to bide his time before becoming a regular at the club level. Johansson has enjoyed a solid spell with Stoke City, keeping 15 clean sheets in 49 appearances thus far while conceding 64 goals.

Meanwhile, Johansson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards for the Swedish international, with West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Viktor Johansson is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a goalkeeper this summer after parting ways with Lukasz Fabianski as a free agent. Additionally, Alphonse Areola has not been convincing enough during his stint with the East London outfit.

Several candidates, including John Victor, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Johansson also being a viable target. However, the East London club will face stiff competition from Como 1907 and Bournemouth for the 26-year-old Swede’s signature in the summer transfer window.

However, West Ham may not be a part of the bidding war to sign Johansson from Championship club Stoke City, as widespread reports have suggested that they are in advanced talks to land John Victor. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Swedish international.
