VfB Stuttgart are reportedly in talks to sign Arsenal misfit Fabio Vieira on a permanent basis ahead of the new season.

According to a report from The Athletic, Fabio Vieira’s days at Arsenal appear to be numbered, with VfB Stuttgart in talks to sign him on a permanent basis. The Bundesliga club have approached their Premier League counterparts, and they are pushing to get the deal done before the transfer deadline.

Vieira came up the ranks at FC Porto and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team. On the back of his impressive performances, Arsenal secured his services in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth €40 million. The Gunners forked out an initial €35 million to add the Portuguese attacking midfielder to their squad.

In his debut campaign, he was involved in a total of 22 league games but only started three of those fixtures. While Arsenal had massive expectations from the 25-year-old, and that is why they invested a significant fee to sign him, the move hasn’t really panned out.

Fabio Vieira has not lived up to the expectations, and he spent the last season out on loan at his childhood club, Porto. A return to the Portuguese club did help him as he was involved in 46 matches and ended up contributing towards 11 goals.

While the player did get things back on track, his performances are not enough to break into Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season. With just two years left on his deal, the North London club are keen on offloading the Portuguese midfielder.

Vieira could leave Arsenal permanently

VfB Stuttgart have emerged as a potential destination. The Bundesliga club seek more creativity in the final third and believe Fabio Vieira could help their cause. His ability to feature on either flank, as a number ten, as well as in a deeper role in midfield, could come in handy.

They are pushing for a permanent deal and are in talks with Arsenal to get it over the line. While an agreement has not been reached just yet, both parties remain in talks. The Gunners are expected to seek a respectable price for Vieira, given how much they had spent to sign him back in 2022.

The North London club are expected to be flexible in negotiations as Vieira is not an important part of their plans and they would prefer to get him off their books.
