Odysseas Vlachodimos set to leave Newcastle United, Sevilla keen
Odysseas Vlachodimos will leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, with La Liga club Sevilla keen on signing the 31-year-old Greek international.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Odysseas Vlachodimos has no future at Newcastle United. The Magpies are revamping their first-team squad in the summer transfer window, with Martin Dubravka also on the exit trail like his fellow goalkeeper. Meanwhile, the experienced shot-stopper is the subject of interest from Sevilla, with Los Nervionenses submitting an enquiry.
A report by Spanish outlet Orgullo Biri has revealed that Sevilla would like to sign the former SL Benfica goalkeeper on loan from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. Additionally, the Andalusian giants want the Tyneside outfit to cover part of Vlachodimos’s salary as discussions over a deal continue.
Odysseas Vlachodimos and his frustrating Newcastle United journey
Odysseas Vlachodimos has been a backup option for Newcastle United since arriving from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £20 million last summer, and his Premier League misery has continued. The 31-year-old has barely featured during his spells with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, and he has managed only one outing thus far for the Magpies.
The Greek international is understandably keen on finding a stable footing for the first time since moving to England nearly two years ago. That opportunity may come from Spain, with La Liga club Sevilla among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
La Liga adventure beckons?
Sevilla’s interest in Odysseas Vlachodimos is understandable. The Andalusian giants are combing the market for a goalkeeper this summer as Matias Almeyda wants a new shot-stopper in his squad heading into the 2025/26 season. With Orjan Nyland on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, Sevilla must sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Several candidates, including Karl Hein, have emerged on Sevilla’s radar, with recent reports suggesting a deal being close. However, with Los Nervionenses yet to sign the Arsenal outcast, Vlachodimos has emerged as a viable alternative. They have already submitted an enquiry and want to sign the Newcastle United goalkeeper on loan.
Sevilla will also ask Newcastle United to cover part of Vlachodimos’s wages, making the prospect an audacious move. Meanwhile, recent reports have suggested that the 31-year-old wants to fight for his spot. However, an adventure in La Liga may be on the cards if Sevilla and Newcastle United find a common ground.
