Galatasaray abandon move for Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson
Turkish giants Galatasaray have pulled out of the race for the signature of Manchester City shot-stopper Ederson.
According to Sabah via SportWitness, Galatasaray have been priced out of a deal for Ederson. The Turkish giants have been working hard to secure the services of the Manchester City star for weeks. While they are keen on having him in their squad, they can’t afford to meet the demands of the player as well as the English club.
Ederson has only gone from strength to strength since joining Manchester City from Benfica back in 2017. Not only has he established himself as the go-to man in goal for Pep Guardiola, but the Brazilian international is also widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Last season, the 31-year-old was involved in a total of 40 matches. While City were not at their best, he still managed to keep 13 clean sheets. While he still has a year left on his deal at the Manchester-based club, his future has been a big talking point for months.
Having won it all at City, Ederson seems keen on trying a new challenge in the final phase of his career. While there was a lot of interest in him from the Middle East, the move hasn’t gone through. Galatasaray entered the race for his services a few weeks back.
Galatasaray can’t afford to sign Ederson
With club legend Fernando Muslera leaving the club to secure a return to Uruguay, the Turkish club are on the lookout for a new number one. With Ederson reportedly available, they have been pushing hard to secure his services.
Initially, reports suggested that City only wanted €10 million. However, the report from Sabah claims they want €20 million to let go of the Brazilian shot-stopper. The price tag is certainly on the higher side, and on top of that, Ederson himself wants an annual salary of €10 million.
The demands of the English club, as well as those of the player, are beyond Galatasaray’s budget. They may have been priced out of a deal, as they are unwilling to pay such a high fee for a goalkeeper. The move has stalled for now, although other reports suggest they are still attempting to negotiate a lower price with City.
