Everton line up €25 million move to sign Dion Lopy
Everton will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Senegalese international Dion Lopy from Spanish second-division club Almeria in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dion Lopy is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a dynamic midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Almeria holding midfielder has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
The Toffees are formulating their opening bid to sign the African midfielder in the summer transfer window. Everton will likely submit a proposal worth €25 million to secure Lopy’s services, and talks to seal the deal for the Almeria prospect have advanced.
Who is Dion Lopy?
Dion Lopy has been one of the standout performers since joining Almeria from Stade Reims in August 2023. The 23-year-old midfielder’s debut season with the Spanish second-division club ended in misery as the Cowboys suffered relegation from La Liga after finishing 19th in the standings.
Almeria then failed to secure promotion from the Spanish second division in the 2024/25 season. However, Lopy has remained a consistent performer, having turned out 73 times thus far for UD Almeria while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, the Senegalese midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Dion Lopy is understandable. The Toffees are combing the market for a dynamic midfielder this summer after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. Additionally, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career, and David Moyes may begin phasing him out as a regular starter.
So, Everton can do with a young midfielder who can serve the Merseyside club for the long haul. Several candidates, including Josh Brownhill, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with Lopy also a viable target. They are preparing a bid worth €25 million to sign the 23-year-old Almeria midfielder.
Talks between Everton and the Spanish second-division club have advanced, and a deal worth €25 million may be on the cards. It will be interesting to see if the Senegalese international experiences top-flight football again in the 2025/26 season.
