Barcelona considering Fermin Lopez sale amid Manchester United links
Manchester United could have an opportunity to sign Fermin Lopez as Barcelona could concede the midfielder in a bid to raise funds.
According to Fichajes, Fermin Lopez could yet leave Barcelona and allow teams like Manchester United to stand a chance to sign the attacking midfielder. Hansi Flick would be open to letting a midfielder or two depart during the summer, as the Blaugrana might face the need to raise funds from sales.
Barcelona have an impressive squad, mostly consisting of young players coming through their famed La Masia academy. Hansi Flick’s first campaign in Catalonia was a testament to how strong the club’s academy is and the level of talent they can produce.
Some players like Fermin Lopez and Marc Casado managed to make a lasting impression with their performances last season, but those two are the most likely ones to leave if the club considers sales. The Catalan giants have signed Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford, but they may still need to free up funds to pay their wages, as well as being able to register them on time.
The pre-season tour has shown that Gavi has taken over Lopez’s position in Flick’s system, and he might be the preferred starter ahead of the new campaign. Flick has already suggested the midfield looks overloaded with options, as Barcelona may consider selling someone like Lopez to raise funds that may prove crucial in the end, despite the midfielder having a season where he produced 18 goals and assists last season.
Lopez already has plenty of interest coming in from the Premier League, with reports stating that Barcelona had rejected an exchange proposal from Chelsea. Liverpool also considered a move for the 18 G/A Barcelona homegrown whizkid, while Manchester City are also keen to add him.
Manchester United in Fermin Lopez boost
Manchester United planned a €70 million bid for Lopez, and they might now have the door ajar to make an offer to test the waters with Barcelona. Whether the Spanish side would feel satisfied with such an offer remains the question, but their openness to sell him might provide the Red Devils with a boost in the chase.
However, the Red Devils are keen to land a top draw striker in this window, and might concentrate their budget on a new No.9. Yet, a move for someone like Fermin Lopez may not be ruled out just yet, as there’s every opportuity to raise funds through sales and make a sizeable offer for the Barcelona star before the window shuts.
