Tyler Morton set to complete Lyon move on Tuesday, undergoes medical
Liverpool graduate Tyler Morton is set to complete his move to Olympique Lyon on Tuesday, with the medical already complete.
According to Ben Jacobs, Tyler Morton’s time at Anfield is coming to an end as he is set to join Olympique Lyon. The English defensive midfielder was unlikely to have a prominent role under Arne Slot next season; as a result, he has decided to make the switch to Ligue 1. He has already undergone his medical, and the move should be formalised on Tuesday.
Morton has been a part of the Liverpool setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and, following a few impressive loan spells at Blackburn and Hull City, he got promoted to the Reds’ first team last summer.
While he was a part of Slot’s squad, he didn’t feature in the Premier League and only made a total of five first-team appearances. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder certainly has the potential to be a special player, but he is not an important part of the Dutch manager’s plans.
Morton is set to join Lyon
Given the number of options Slot has at his disposal, Morton was unlikely to have a decent role in the team. As a result, he was keen on leaving the club despite having two years left on his deal. Lyon were aware of his situation, and they managed to strike a deal for his signature.
The French club were looking for more depth in the centre of the park, and the versatile midfielder can certainly help their cause. After long-drawn negotiations, the Ligue 1 giants have struck a deal worth £15 million to sign the Liverpool graduate.
The player was keen on making the switch, and he has already completed the first part of his Lyon medical ahead of his move. With everything in place, the transfer is expected to be formalised on Tuesday.
Given how much the Reds have spent this summer, Morton’s departure certainly helps as he is an academy graduate and the entire will be considered pure profit in their books.
