Liverpool make contingency plans if they miss out on Alexander Isak

Liverpool are already drawing up contingency plans as uncertainty looms over their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.

Liverpool are pushing hard to acquire the services of Alexander Isak this summer, but they are aware that striking a deal with Newcastle United won’t be that straightforward. As a result, they already have contingency plans in place in case they fail to land the Swedish striker.

According to Sebastien Vidal, the Merseyside club won’t push for another striker if they fail to land the Swedish international this summer. They will continue to monitor him and could return for him next summer.

Isak has been on Liverpool’s wishlist since the start of the summer. They knocked on Newcastle’s door quite early in the window, but the Magpies were not willing to negotiate his departure. As a result, the Reds shifted their focus to other top targets.

They ended up signing Hugo Ekitike for the number nine role. Despite adding the 23-year-old forward to their squad, Arne Slot’s team continued to monitor Isak’s situation, and once the player handed in a transfer request, Liverpool resumed their pursuit.

The Reds already have the green light from the players’ end, and of late, they have been trying to negotiate with the Magpies. While they did table a massive initial offer, Eddie Howe’s team turned it down straightaway. Now, Liverpool are reluctant to come up with another offer as they feel Newcastle are not willing to let him go.

Liverpool won’t pursue an alternative striker

As per reports, Isak is set to resume training with the team, which is another blow to Liverpool’s pursuit. The Reds are not certain if they can strike a deal this summer; as a result, they have already drawn up a backup plan.

Arne Slot’s team won’t push for another striker if they fail to sign Isak. They will make the most out of the options they already have. Florian Wirtz will take up a much more advanced role, while they are hoping Jeremie Frimpong can add a lot to their attack.

Meanwhile, Rio Ngumoha could have a decent role next season. He could provide competition as well as much-needed support to Hugo Ekitike in the final third if Darwin Nunez is sold in the coming weeks. The Reds could then resume their pursuit of Isak next summer if he doesn’t end up penning a new deal.
