According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Christopher Nkunku is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old wantaway Chelsea forward has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.

The Frenchman is an alternative to Ademola Lookman for Inter Milan. However, the Serie A giants have put Nkunku’s name on the sidelines, “primarily due to cost concerns” amid Chelsea’s high asking price and the player’s €6.5 million-a-year wages.

Christopher Nkunku and his Chelsea woes

Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating spell since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €65 million in July 2023. The 27-year-old versatile attacker’s arrival generated hype and fanfare among the Chelsea fans. However, fitness issues blighted the player’s progress in his debut season, and his stock fell in his second campaign.

The French international had a productive 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 20 goals in 2,314 minutes of game time across 47 appearances in all competitions. Nkunku has a decent tally of 18 goals and five assists in 62 outings thus far for Chelsea. he has no future at Stamford Bridge after growing frustrated at the West London club. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Inter Milan.

Serie A adventure beckons?

Inter Milan’s interest in Christopher Nkunku makes sense. The Serie A giants are combing the market for a versatile attacker as they look to overhaul their offensive unit in the summer transfer window. While Ange-Yoan Bonny has replaced Marko Arnautovic, Mehdi Taremi faces an uncertain future at San Siro, compelling Inter Milan to seek another forward from the market.

In addition, Joaquin Correa is no longer at the Serie A club. So, Nkunku has emerged as a viable target for Inter Milan, with the Nerazzurri reportedly establishing contact over a possible move for the Frenchman. However, a summer deal may not see the light of day, “primarily due to cost concerns” about his €6.5 million-a-year wages and transfer fee.

Recent reports have claimed that Nkunku will likely be one of the first players to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window. However, Inter Milan’s hesitance to launch a bid may mean that the 27-year-old French international may have to look elsewhere for a summer escape route.
