West Ham United open talks to sign Mads Hermansen
West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Mads Hermansen is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Leicester City shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
The two clubs are in talks over a possible move for Hermansen, and a quick return to the Premier League may be on the cards. Meanwhile, Leicester City will demand around £25 million to part ways with the Dane, with West Ham hoping to sign him for a lower fee in the summer transfer window.
Mads Hermansen and his stint with Leicester City so far
Mads Hermansen has been one of the standout performers for Leicester City since arriving from Brondby IF in July 2023. The 25-year-old hit the ground running at the Midlands outfit, playing his part in Leicester City’s EFL Championship title-winning campaign in the 2023/24 season. While the Foxes were dreadful last term, he remained consistent.
The Danish goalkeeper was a rare bright spot for Leicester City in a campaign that ended with relegation from the Premier League. Hermansen has turned out 72 times thus far for the Foxes while keeping 14 clean sheets and conceding 101 goals. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League clubs, including West Ham United.
Premier League return on the horizon?
West Ham United’s interest in Mads Hermansen is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a goalkeeper this summer after parting ways with Lukasz Fabianski, whose long association with the East London club ended when he departed as a free agent. However, Graham Potter wants a new first-choice goalkeeper for his team.
So, the summer signing will usurp Alphonse Areola as the primary candidate between the sticks, and Hermansen has emerged as a viable target for West Ham. The Hammers have opened talks with Leicester City to sign the 25-year-old Dane, although the Midlands outfit’s asking price may pose an issue.
Leicester City will demand around £25 million to part ways with Hermansen, a valuation that does not please West Ham. So, it will be interesting to see how the negotiations between West Ham and the relegated club progress in the coming weeks.
